Do you run an eCommerce business?

Good, keep reading. Here are 7 actionable things you can do today to improve your website’s conversion rate and SEO score.

Post a Blog

Think about questions your customers have asked you or your customer service representatives over the years.

Consider your answer. Now turn that into a blog. If you use WordPress or an eCommerce platform like BigCommerce or Shopify, adding a blog is easy as writing a draft and copying and pasting a few things.

You should do keyword research first, but if you can’t it’s not big deal. Any content is better than none and a blog that answers a customer query is going to rank for something.

That blog alone will result in additional impressions and, if it’s good, drive more organic traffic to your website.

Include Internal Links

Here’s a big tip: put internal links to your products and categories in that blog, where relevant.

Internal links serve sort of like funnels to direct traffic where you want it to go. They improve the customer experience, help users find what they’re looking for, and open up opportunities for cross and upselling opportunities.

Also, internal links improve your website’s structure, which Google likes to see. They can boost your SEO score.

Stick Target Keywords in Your Headers

This is the oldest and easiest SEO hack in the book, and after all these years, it still works.

Think of a few target keywords you want to rank for. Then pick a specific URL you want to get impressions for that search term.

Look at the page, identify a few headers, and insert that keyword into some of your H1’s and H2’s, where it makes sense.

Don’t just stuff it, put it where it belongs. Then wait a few days. Impressions will increase, and clicks may too.

Scrap Your Stolen Product Page Copy

If you have duplicate product page copy, get rid of it right now. It’s not helping.

Anything that you wrote is better than whatever you stole from the manufacturer or distributor. Google sees, and flags that, as duplicate copy.

Just write some new copy and try to keep some of the same keywords in it. It will perform better, and that’s almost guaranteed.

Answer a Question from PAA

Type in a keyword or a question related to one of your products. Scroll down the search results and look at the PAA, or People Also Ask, section of the search results.

Take one of those questions, and find a way to answer it in a blog or in your new product page copy. That increases your chances of getting a rich snippet or being featured in the PAA yourself, and will vastly improve both UX (which drives conversions) and SEO.

Compress Your Images

Big images may look great but if they slow your web pages down (and they probably do) your site speed scores will tank.

This will result in higher bounce rates, not to mention worse SEO scores.

There are so many free image compression tools. Some of the best of them are TinyPNG and JPEG Optimizer. Use them.

Include Alt Text

One final tip. In addition to compressing your images, you should add some of your target keywords into the Alt Data/Attribute fields of your image files. This will only help a little with SEO, but every little bit counts.

Sign Up for eCommerce SEO Services

If all of that search engine optimization sounds like a lot of work, it is. It’s easy stuff, but making all of those page optimizations to your site usually takes hours, and that doesn’t even account for the time it takes to perform keyword research, which is necessary to do it right in the first place.

Still, they will increase your online visibility and bring you more long-term potential customers, so it’s worth it.

If you can’t afford to do it all yourself, consider hiring experts for eCommerce SEO services. A team of eCommerce SEO experts with experience in link-building, content writing, and other marketing strategies can entirely change the trajectory of your eCommerce website.

If you don’t have the time to invest in personally overseeing eCommerce SEO strategies, hire some experts. It will pay off in the long run; SEO offers the highest ROI of all marketing channels.
